PHCM is an expansion of the work Vern started 32 years ago when he founded Peterschmidt and Associates to serve the financial and organizational needs of the health care industry.  In 2004 Vern and Steve started a skilled home health care agency in Colorado Springs. The agency was started from scratch with Vern's industry and financial experience and Steve's management and business experience.  With a great staff and a progressive management style the agency experienced rapid and consistent growth, becoming one of the community leaders of Medicare home care services.  The Peterschmidt family sold the agency in 2009.

In 2010 PHCM was formed to bring Vern's 40 plus years of financial and management experience together with Steve's 20 plus years of management and operations experience. The experience both gained while successfully starting, growing and then selling a home care agency puts PHCM in a unique position of knowing, first hand, the day to day challenges of running a health care agency.  More importantly, knowing how to do it successfully. Vern and Steve want to use their experiences and successes to help the industry stay strong and thrive as the business of health care becomes more challenging.

Vern Peterschmidt
To say that Vern has a lot of experience with Medicare cost reporting is an understatement.  Starting in 1966 Vern was a member of the initial Medicare audit team for hospitals in Iowa, becoming the supervisor for home health audits in 1968.  From there he never looked back.  Working for fiscal intermediaries in Iowa, Oklahoma and New Mexico before joining a national accounting firm and finally starting his own consulting firm in 1978.
   
Vern has worked with hundrends of home health, hospital, FQHC's and clinics all across the country, providing financial, organizational, payment, reimbursement, accounting and systems consulting.  Since 1992 he has given over 125 seminars, has presented at dozens of state association and National Association of Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) conferences.  Vern is a member of the NAHC committees on Cost Reporting, Standardized Chart of Accounts and Education.

Steve Peterschmidt 
Steve has over 20 years of management experience at all levels of business and with a diverse group of industries.  Most recently as the owner and administrator of a home care agency in Colorado.  With Vern's oversight, Steve grew the agency from a self funded start-up with no employees, no patients and no revenue to a respected agency with over $5 million in annual revenue. All in less than 5 years.  The agency was defined by high quality scores, high patient satisfaction, high employee satisfaction and solid financials.  Rapid and consistent growth was achieved through in-depth industry knowledge, the ability to monitor key indicators, and the creation of an organization good at changing to meet the needs of its current growth phase.
  
Prior to the health care industry Steve worked in the weapons, aerospace and high tech industries.  Steve has taken the management, business and process control experience from these progressive industries and adapted it successfully to health care.
